Week 10 · Torah, People, and Hebrew
Mikveh, Chukim, and Sacred Embodiment
Questions 123–140
Academy reading copy. This lesson is not offered as a file download.
Objectives
Explain this week’s central concepts accurately, respectfully, and in clear language.
Answer Questions 123–140 in complete sentences and correct them after discussion.
Connect belief and law to observable practice in home, synagogue, and community.
Core content
Mikveh; chukim; family purity orientation; immersion of utensils; sanctification of the body and home.
Required reading
Hayim Halevy Donin, To Be a Jew; Aryeh Kaplan, Handbook of Jewish Thought; Chumash with Rashi; the community’s siddur.
Practical observance
Tour a community mikveh if permitted, or review its purpose and procedures privately with an approved teacher. This orientation does not replace the separate, gender-appropriate taharat hamishpachah module required by the Beit Din.
Hebrew strand
Practice 10–15 minutes daily: letters, vowels, and ten recurring siddur words. Record one passage that became easier this week.
Homework and reflection
Complete written responses for 123–140; mark every answer that depends on local custom or rabbinic ruling.
Write 150–250 words: “How should this week’s learning change the way I live?”
Record attendance, practice completed, uncertainties, and one question for the sponsoring rabbi.
Rabbinic checkpoint
Speak respectfully and accurately about mikveh; detailed family-purity instruction is individualized.
